Social media platforms

Social media platforms are websites that are interactive online communities. Members of social media sites interact based on common interests, values and social connections, and they can also network for business purposes.

For best results online, you need to attract many visitors to your site(s) and network with people in your niche. Social media platforms can be very helpful for both, so opening free accounts with all, or most, of the following popular social media sites is a good strategy.

1. Facebook – Facebook isn’t only for connecting with family, friends and co-workers posts via instant messages, photo and video sharing and online games, it can also be used to promote a business via a professional page.

2. Twitter – One of the most simple social media sites to use because it’s “microblogging” (only 140 characters per post, with options for photo and video sharing), Twitter can be used to connect with both personal and professional contacts.

3. Google + – Available to all Google service users (anyone who has a Gmail account, for example) Google+ allows you to write posts, instant message, and share photos and videos with other Google+ users.

4. LinkedIn – A professional networking site that allows users to create online resumes, LinkedIn connects potential employers and employees.

5. Pinterest: Pinterest is a platform for sharing pictures of things that you like that you find online or upload from your computer, and you can share pictures of products and services that you offer on your site(s) too.

6. Youtube: If you’re using video to market your site, YouTube is a good site to post your videos, and it’s also useful for networking if you like and comment on other member’s videos and follow other users’ “channels.”

Remember: social media sites should never be used to promote your website or blog and nothing else. You should interact genuinely with other site members, and promote things that they offer that complement what you’re offering on your site and/or what you personally believe in.
